  5. Welcome to QuickTip!
  6. A handy-dandy PalmPilot application for calculating tips on anything.  But especially useful
  7. after you, or perhaps a group of people, have consumed vast quantities of food and the ol'
  8. brain isn't working to its full capacity.

  11. QuickTip is a simplistic, electronic tip calculator written because I'm all the time needing
  12. one and none of them I found (see the list below) suited me exactly.  Not to say they might
  13. not suit you, but I wanted something with a little of what each of them offered, and the
  14. result was 'QuickTip'.  Notice it's also a word play on my last name, pretty clever huh?

  27. I.  Installation
  28. Installation of QuickTip is just like any other PalmPilot program.  Use the installation
  29. program that came with your Palm device or another one like "PalmPilot Power Install," a
  30. most bodacious install tool.  Point your browser at "www.FastMoto.com" to check it out.

  33. II.  System Requirements
  34. This application requires Version 2 or later of the Palm operating system.
  35. 4K of free memory is required - a mere pittance on the new Palm III.

  43. IV.  Using It
  44. By popular demand several enhancements have been added to QuickTip to make it more 
  45. versatile and yet still retain the KISS operating methodolgy.
  46.  
  47. There is now a drop-down list for the amount.  You can select an amount from the list by
  48. tapping on the drop-down arrow and selecting a fixed amount or you can enter an amount in 
  49. the normal fashion using grafitti.
  50.  
  51. A tax field has been added that can be ignored if the tax rate is set to zero or made use 
  52. of by setting the tax rate to your local area.  The up and down arrows allow you to change 
  53. the percentage by hundreths of a percent.

  55. And finally, there is a drop-down list for the number of people in the group.  You can use 
  56. this list by tapping on the drop-down arrow and selecting one of the fixed group numbers, 
  57. or you can enter the number using grafitti.

  59. There is one other little trick you can do with QuickTip that will verify your server has 
  60. figured your bill correctly.  On the amount line, enter the amount prior to any tax being 
  61. added to the bill then press either the "Page Up or Page Down" button.  After you do this 
  62. you will notice the tip amount goes to 0 (zero) and the total is now just the amount plus 
  63. the tax.

  65. So as you can see, there is still not much to it and it's still pretty simple to operate.  
  66. After you have installed the QuickTip.prc file and started the application, it's ready to 
  67. be used.  Just enter the amount and it starts calculating the tip for you.

  69. If you've dined with several people, you can enter the number of people and it will give
  70. you the amount for each person.

  72. If you change the tip percentage, it is retained and the next time you run QuickTip it
  73. will use that percentage.

  76. V.   Caveats
  77. My wife and I did all the beta testing, but several friends are now using it and have
  78. not reported any problems.  However, if you find a 'bug', that's not a feature, please
